The Hidden Treasures of the Kazinga Channel Uganda
The Pearl of Africa; Uganda is not just home to the famous mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, thousands of birds and lots of animals including the big five game.
Uganda’s Kazinga channel is over 40 kilometers long natural river like channel that links Lake Edward in the East and Lake George in the west.
The channel is one of the most loved features of Queen Elizabeth National Park situated in Western Uganda. Queen Elizabeth National Park covers an area of about 1,978 km².
Because of the variety of wild game and birds in this park, so many tourists have had interesting Uganda wildlife safaris in this famous park that was named after Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Uganda.
The Kazinga Channel shores attract a large number of wild animals, reptiles and birds throughout the year.
The channel is also blessed to entice the largest population of hippos and Nile crocodiles in the whole world.
A number of animals collect along the Kazinga Channel to quench their thirst especially during the afternoon.
These animals are easily seen if one took a boat cruise down the channel.
The animals are easily spotted at the entrance of the spectacular Lake Edward. The Boat Cruise along the Kazinga Channel is extremely pleasing and is rated among the finest and most liked launch trips in the country.
The boat cruise is operated from 3pm and 5pm local time however there are private boat that can be arranged for tourists who wish to go private.
Visitors with great birding desire can easily spot 60 species of birds on average during the 2-hour boat trip along Kazinga Channel.
Birds that can easily be seen include; the Black bee eater, Black-rumped buttonquail, 11 different species of Kingfisher, several Falcons, African skimmer, the Great White and Pink-Backed Pelicans, African Shoebill, Yellow Billed Stork, Great and Long Tailed Cormorants, Open-Billed Stork, Saddle Bill Stork, Darters, Black Crake and Jacana among the many.
